Ajith and Shahrukh Khan to share screen space in Asal

Ajith and Shahrukh Khan to share screen space in Asal It’s seems to be pay back time for Ajith. It’s a known fact that Bollywood’s King ShahRukh Khan has offered Ajith Kumar to play the character of his younger brother in Santosh Sivan’s Ashoka and now our Ajith has requested Shahrukh to play an important role in his upcoming venture Asal. The film deals with the underworld elements and Shahrukh will be seen performing the role of one of the don. The film is scheduled to be shot in exotic locations of London. According to the film schedule, the two superstars will come together to shoot for this dream project.

It surely is going to be a treat for these superstar’s fans to see them sharing the screen space.
Shruti’s Haasan’s bikini act!

The latest star kid on the block ‘Shruti Haasan’ is all set to dazzle the silver screen with her debut in Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd.’s film ‘Luck’ directed by Soham Shah.

And while there are newbies who shy away from sporting a bikini in their very first film, Shruti seemed to be game for it!

"When Soham narrated the script, I did not even consider the bikini thing as a big deal it was logical to the premise. While shooting for it, the weather was very weird that day. It was freezing cold, but apart from that it was like any other scene in the film for me", says Shruthi.

"Shruti did work out to get a toned body. Moreover she worked more hard to maintain it. We shot the sequence in Cape Town. The temperature was only two degrees. She had to brave the icy weather for the shoot." tells the glad Director Soham.

"The scene involves Imran Khan, Ravi Kishaan and Mithun Chakraborthy. Shruti was not at all apprehensive of wearing a two-piece swim wear as she was aware of it from before. The scene is totally justified as Ravi Kishaan's character pins his eyes on her.", adds the director.

The styling was done by the director’s wife, Binal Shah who is a fashion designer. "I bought a plain Bebe bikini that fitted Shruti perfectly. I then embellished it with mother of pearls in shades of green that matched the night pool ambience."

Well, for a debutante, Shruti’s confidence and zeal are quite inspiring, we must say!

‘Luck’ is an action adventure film that has been creating waves & arousing lot of anticipation from audiences for its daredevil stunts and amalgamation of some of the finest actors of Indian Cinema.

Produced by Dhilin Mehta & Directed by Soham Shah, the film marks the debut of Shruti Haasan (Kamal Haasan’s daughter) and stars Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Mithun Chakraborthy, Ravi Kishaan, Chitrashi Rawat and Danny Denzongpa. The soundtrack is composed by Salim Suleiman.

‘Luck’ is all set to hit theatres on July 24 '09.

Suriya teams up with Murugadoss for a trilingual

It doesn’t get bigger than this! Suriya, who is already committed to do a film in Bollywood with RGV, will now take on a trilingual, to be made in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. And the flick will be directed by none other than our ‘Ghajini’ Murugadoss and be produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin.

“It is true that we are doing the film, the shoot for which will begin in February next year. Suriya will play the lead in all the versions,” he said, adding that the rest of the cast for the flick is still being finalized.

Suriya will begin work on this film after his current flick ‘Aadhavan’, and his 25th film ‘Singam’. Harris Jayaraj, who has come up with chartbuster tunes for Suirya, from ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ to ‘Varanam Aayiram’ and ‘Ayan’, will be the music composer.

“It is a complete action flick but we are still in the process of finalizing the script,” revealed Murugadoss.

With the much awaited musical score from the Oscar Award winning composer AR Rahman, ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvayaa’ is sure to churn out some magic in its own special way. The film is sure to render some unforgettable and soulful numbers in the composer’s style, shot to the artistic visuals of Director Goutham Menon. With five song situations in the film, three songs have been composed already, out of which two songs have been shot extensively in Malta at some virgin locations.

The song “Hosanaa”, sung by Vijay Prakash of “Jai Ho” fame, penned to the lyrics of Thamarai and a rap by Blaze is a sure hit among the young crowd for its peppy beats and stunning visuals shot by Manoj Paramahamsa at Malta corresponding to the stylized choreography by Flexy Stu of Adiye Kolluthey fame.

“Omana Penne” written by Thamarai too and sung by AR Rahman himself, holds a style of its own in the way it has been sung and programmed. This song too has been shot at Malta with choreography done by Flexy Stu and is a sure to turn a favorite for all AR Rahman fans!

Nalini Sriram adds to the appearance of the film with striking costumes for all the actors in the scenes and songs. The costumes made for the songs are eye catching elements that are hard to be missed by the audience!

Kanthaswamy - Vikram sizzles all the way

It can't get bigger than this. Kalaipuli S Thanu's ‘Kanthaswamy’, touted to be the big-budgeted movie in Tamil film industry, starring Vikram and Shriya in the lead roles and directed by Susi Ganesan, is getting ready for release. The movie has been shot in various exotic locales across the globe.

It dwells on a mass theme - the need for equal distribution of wealth among the people and narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. ‘Kanthaswamy’ has musical score by Devi Sri Prasad and interestingly 'Chiyaan' Vikram has sung half of the songs. Perhaps its after M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar that a movie's hero has sung all songs himself. Peppy, racy and pulsating, the song in ‘Kanthaswamy’ are youthful. The pick of them being “Excuse Me Mr Kanthaswamy” and “Mambo Mamiya”.

1. Yem Peru Meenakumari

Singer: Malathy

Vibrant and high voltage song. Malathy, who has made a name for herself singing such brisk numbers, is at it again. A cocktail of racy beats and funny lyrics, the song is sure to catch the hearts of youths. An item-number, it is power-packed and glamorous.

2. Excuse Me

Singer: Vikram and Sucithra

It is a peppy dance number. Sure to make one shake their leg. Supposedly a romantic number, it is about a girl's desire for his lover boy. Vikram has brought the singer out of him well. His diction too is great. A good singing debut it is by him.

3. Kanthaswamy

Singer: Devi Sri Prasad

A remix that is rapid like bullets fired from a machine gun. The song rendered by Devi Sri Prasad himself has enough elements to make one tap their foot. The beats in the interludes deserve a special mention.

4. Mambo Mamiya

Singer: Vikram and Rita

The pick of the album. It is loud and oozes with pace. The open-throated voice of Vikram compliments that of Rita well. However shades of “Kannum Kannum Nokia” from ‘Anniyan’ cannot be ruled out. The good use of electric guitar and percussion gives a lift to the song.

5. Allegro

Singer: Rita

A refreshing voice it is from Rita. It is a fast number which has everything in it to appease music-lovers. The rhythm and beats makes it an interesting one to listen to. The foot-tapping number is a delight to listen to.

6. Idhellam Dupe

Singer: Vikram

Vikram has rendered the song that begins like a rap. The catchy lyric by Viveka is its major strength. He sings the song in one breath. Vikram's magnetic voice is a delight.

7. Meow Meow

Singer: Vikram and Priya Hemesh

A perfect rhythm-based song, Meow Meow is sure to enter the lips of everyone instantly. Loaded with catchy rhythm, the song begins at slow pace only to gather momentum as it progresses.

‘Kanthaswamy’, in all, is a music album worth listening to thanks to Chiyaan's magic.

Modhi Vilaiyadu Movie Review

Modhi Vilaiyadu - Well packaged and glossy, Modhi Vilaiyadu rocks

If Modhi Vilaiyadu is a precursor to ‘Asal’, you are sure Ajith has a blockbuster in hand. Director Saran, who definitely seemed disoriented in both Vattaram and Idhaya Thirudan, bounces back in awesome form with this neatly packaged movie, ‘Modhi Vilaiyadu’.

A factor one observes in all of Saran’s popular films, Modhi Vilaiyadu’ too, comes with a heavy script written by S Ramakrishnan, that lends to a dreamy first half with a twist that leads to great pace after the intermission. Every character has a soul in the film, something you observe from Kalabavan Mani’s Man Friday Alse to Cochin Haneefa.

If you saw ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ and thought it had one of the best starts ever, you’ll have to watch this one. We talk of an identity crisis but what happens when you live a life not knowing who you really are? What if the life you’re living is what you’ve been cheated into living, and doesn’t belong to you at all?

Such is the dilemma faced by the film’s protagonist Vinay, who plays Udhay Vasudev, son of a billionaire businessman Rajan Vasudev (played by Kalabavan Mani). Vinay is an apt choice for this role, and with his gait, sophistication and body language, you tend to overlook his almost-Tamil dubbing in the film. The actor’s dubbing for himself for the first time, and sure has a long way to go. Kajal Agarwal seems to be evolving into the next girl in the Shalini, Jyothika mould with bubbly characters, and she plays a young, college goer, who is forced to do chores for Vinay. The first half is replete with their antics, which go to unimaginable levels, but heck, this is a film and you know everyday life is exaggerated. Both Vinay and Kajal’s roles have equal meat, and their performance contributes positively to the film.

Kalabavan Mani. As in most films, the villain’s character is a sore thumb here too. It’s high time someone tells the actor his antics aren’t funny to watch, but highly trying on your patience. The man believes in getting things done, hook or crook, and there seems to have been no thought in scripting his character, which is where the movie is at its weakest.

Cochin Haneefa is such a delight to watch! The actor definitely has you in splits. Santhanam, who is clearly on a high in his career graph, is most likely to overtake Vivek and Vadivelu in the comedy race. And Mayilsamy is another interesting addition in the film.

The movie is highly pleasing to the eye, thanks to the camera work by AD Karun. But it’s amply supported by the music by Colonial Cousins and background score by Stephen Devassy. Padhi Kadhal shows musical mastery, and the director has done a commendable job in picturising the song. And the placement, pciturisation and concept behind Modhi Vilaiyadu, the title track that appears at a crucial juncture in the film, deserves Saran a pat on his back. Deva, Hariharan and Leslie make cameos in this innovatively composed track.

Perhaps as acknowledgement of Ajith doing ‘Asal’, the director makes a mention of the actor quite often in the movie. We only hope his next offering, which is with Thala himself, proves to be as good as this one.

Mysskin to direct Kamal soon

His ‘Anjathey’ made people to sit up and take notice. Director Mysskin gave Prasanna first time a negative character with this movie. Now, recently the filmmaker has been lauded by Ullaganayagan! According to sources, Kamal Haasan, who is said to be a voracious movie-watcher at home, recently had watched Mysskin’s movies like ‘Anjathey’ and ‘Nandalala’. And the actor is highly impressed with the director. So much that he has decided to choose him as the director for his next movie under Rajkamal International, Kamal’s home production.

Mysskin revealed, “We met and discussed working together for a future project. But nothing has been firmed up about the script or the production work.”

Now this looks quite interesting. Hope both great minds come up with something distinct

Vikram to romance Ileana!?!

Even as Vikram is doing the countdown for his ‘Kanthaswamy’ to hit screens, the experimental actor has signed up his next project that will begin in September. The actor, who is currently working on Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavana’ now, will proceed to do a love story.

This film, as reported earlier, will be directed by 'Yaavarum Nalam' Vikram K Kumar. The director had earlier stated that he was looking for a young, fresh face for the film, and now, it looks like he may have changed his mind. Reliable sources tell us the director has approached Telugu siren Ileana to do the role in his next film, and both Vikrams, along with the rest of Kollywood, are eager to have her back in Tamil films. Will the elusive Ileana, who has turned down the opportunity to work with the biggest of our heroes, Rajini (for Endhiran) and Vijay (Vettaikkaran) say yes to our Chiyaan?

Arya romancing Nayantara

Malayalee born, Arya, is finally giving a shot for his hometown. The ‘Naan Kaduval’ hero is stepping into the Kerala screen for the first time. And he will share the screen with none other than the Kerala hottie, Nayantara.

Her cameo appearance in ‘Twenty 20’ was a gesture to show that she has not forgotten her native roots. Nayantara gave the Mallywood audience a refreshing change with her comeback in ‘Bodyguard’ with Dileep.

Now she is back to sizzle again in a yet-to-be-titled project, directed by Shyamaprasad. He is the filmmaker who gave Malayalam remarkable movies like ‘Akale’ and ‘Ore Kadal’. So we have to see what is stored in for us by the talented director this time.

Arya and Nayantara - now with such hot pairing the movie is sure to scorch the Mollywood.

Karthi in double role!

Suriya’s younger sibling might be following his foot steps in acting skills, but Karthi is taking his time to come up with new projects. After ‘Paruthiveeran’, people are waiting for the actor to give another striking success. Audience are counting days for his ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ to hit the screens. Meanwhile, his movie, ‘Paiya’ opposite Tamannah is making news too.

Karthi is said to be doing a remake of Telugu movie ‘Vikramarkudu’ with director Kathir of ‘Thenavattu’ fame. Titled ‘Siruthai’, the movie will be produced by Gnanavel under Studio Green banner. ‘Arundhathee’ fame Anushka will play Karthi’s leading lady. Interestingly, one can see the impressive hero in double role in this movie!

Besides, ‘Siruthai’, Karthi will also work with director Susindhran who made ‘Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu’.

Now, with these, Karthi seems to have his hands full!
